So. Thinking 'bout it, I thought we could have a bunch of fun with a site wide event based on the Hunger Games. We tried to do something like this once before, but it never actually got started. So! I thought I might re-vamp the original idea, and reach out to everyone who would be interested for your thoughts & ideas. Basically... Remember the Five Doctors, when they & their companions were time-scooped into the Death Zone on Gallifrey? And, you know how in the Hunger Games, there are tributes from each District that compete against each other until only one is left standing? Well, I was looking to sort of blend these ideas into our basic plot. I was thinking: A criminal/evil organization might be seeking revenge on the Doctor(s) for various reasons (mostly, because he had foiled their plans, time and time again), and so... they forcibly recruit (either by physical force, or by time scoop) and plop our Doctors and companions/allies somewhere where they are secluded from the rest of the universe. Heck, it could even just be some crazy Time Lord that's jealous of the Doctor. Maybe this is his/her sick, twisted idea of an actual game? Maybe they only kidnap the companions - and make the Doctor(s) watch. I'm not too keen on having them fight each other to the death. It just seems so... Final (and also, not something his companions would naturally be prone to do). SO! Instead, how about our heroes either find a way to escape and shut down the "Games", or... it's timed, and who-all-ever is left standing, "wins". I dunno - this is just the beginnings. Shall we brainstorm, m'dears? Any volunteers? <3

I volunteer Fitz =)
Alternatively, if you wanted it to seem to have the edge of violence/threat of the Hunger Games without actually killing the participants you could put them in a virtual reality or shared dream/psychic experience (whatever you want to call it), where they just think it's real (and it feels real) and participants share a pre-programmed world that broadcasts their mind-views for the audience. You could then put in antagonists (villains, monsters, whatever) and challenges of whatever type and not worry about companions/allies taking each other out D:
Part of the solution then could be realising that it is not real and trying to hijack the place or figuring out how to survive (beat the clock) or some other solution (or combination of solutions). Been done before but if done well can still be interesting especially if it's meant to provoke reactions from an audience. Other beings could still "bet" on their favourites, and take odds etc, making the Hunger Games a "reality TV" show spectacle.

It also means those of us with stupidly powerful characters can sit outside 'watching' this and being incredibly meta about it (If you're a Word Lord).
I'd love to get involved, but most of my characters are not companions, and on top of that three of them have near god-like abilities and powers (Zagreus has his sword, Nobody No-One draws power from words and thus programming. He'd be aware of everything and practically Matrix the crap out of everything, and Omega has his Gel Guards). The only one I could get involved is Sunny.

Hehehe - sounding good, so far! <3 I'm also reminded of the X-Men villain, Mojo, and his televised fights. He also used brainwashing techniques to turn teammates against each other. Maybe something like this could somehow be included? *shrugs*

My favorite villain is: ...I prefer "Byronic antihero", if you please.

Oooh! *intrigued*
I'm going to keep an eye on this one and offer up a muse depending on what's settled on. If it's Doctors and companions, my Valeyard and Ellie are SO in there! If it's just companions, I could still toss in Ellie (militant greenie hippie - could be fun!). And depending on who the baddie behind it all is, I may or may not offer up Vansell - spy in the ranks, anyone?
Don't think Mel, Sentris or Sil have a part to play here...*pops them back in their boxes (they're not complaining!)*

That could be fun. I can see it now, the audience "watching" it however they do, like pay per view. Making comments, some from their lairs or in groups (being meta). And then a number flashes up with numbers to call:
>Press 1 if you want to see Tribute 32 dance >Press 2 if you want to see Tribute 10 turn ranks >Press 3 if you want to see more bees >Press 4 to send your favourite Tribute a present >Press 5 to spring a hidden trap
Call in now! Meanwhile, let's see what's happening in section 4-2
///CUTSCENE///
Tribute: I need water! Please...send me water. I'll do anything...almost anything...please >hoarse<

Fitz - you are a genius!
We just need to get some baddies on board to be our audience - Doctors, too - and then some Companions to terrorize.
I wonder how many of each we ought to aim to recruit for this Event?
Muahahahaha! <3
I can already imagine the alliances and whatnot. This will probably be very awesome. <33

This might be a good excuse to dust off Jim Hayes again.

I think...what six companions? At the very least, more if we could round some up. An even amount would be good to start out. Maybe set them into the arena in random pairs? For Doctors as many as want to play into it, perhaps they don't get to be in the arena at first at all, maybe they're stuck with the audience. Or one of them is. Depends who wants to throw in.

So, I sat down and had a good think. How's this for a plot outline? Let's say that The Gamemaker (either an existing "villain", or an NPC - likely a Time Lord) is either commissioned to orchestrate this Reality Show, or he/she thinks it up him/herself. His/her bottom line will be: Ratings & Entertainment. The Tributes will be whisked away via Time Scoop and deposited in an undisclosed laboratory/studio. They will be hooked up to machines that: A) mentally link them to the broadcast from the Arena, and B) mentally link them all to Flesh avatars of themselves. Of course, they won't know that they are mentally inhabiting Flesh bodies - they'll think all of this is actually Real. Weeellll... it IS real. But, Death won't be the End for them in these Games. If they die in the Games, their Flesh avatar will simply dissolve (like spilled milk), and they will wake up in the lab/studio... Or, they could be awakened by outside stimulus and disconnected from the machines by either someone who's come to rescue them, or by a Tribute that 'died' in the Arena. However, they still will have to escape the lab/studio, which I doubt will be easy. *winks* As for the Arena, I was thinking of something along the lines of Marvel Comics' Savage Land, but rather than being located in the heart of Antarctica, it will be secluded on an asteroid (kinda like Demons Run - but a jungle populated by all manner of weird alien creatures and dinosaurs, and whatever else we can think up). So, whaddya all think? <3

I love the idea of using flesh avatars, that's a stroke of genius. And I also like the idea of the crater/jungle world as well. This is going to be fun =)

*takes a humble bow* Thank you, Fitzy, m'dear! Your kind words give me all sorts of warm-fuzzies! <3 Additional thought: What if... The Guardians decided to play a game? Or, have a bet? And, they each pick (depending on how large this gets) 1 or 2 Champions to represent their various aspects/themes in the Games, and they task the Time Lord that we will be referring to as the Gamemaker with orchestrating the Event. Mmmm...?

That's interesting, using the Guardians...if there's six of them and they each pick say two and start them out in pairs we'd need 12 candidates. I like this idea very much, hopefully we can find 6-12 characters for this thread =)
So the Guardians would be behind it and have the Gamemaster be the front of the operation, running the show so to speak and keeping them "behind the scenes"? Perhaps in return it is the Gamemaster's wish that it be shown to the other inhabitants of the multiverse (ie, 'televised')? Also, according to that article, the Guardians were responsible for keeping the Eternals amused with Games (Quantum Archangel). So that makes sense!

<333333 Let's do it! I think I might start up a thread for Casting in the Open Threads forum (I'll link to it when it's up), to hopefully draw in more folks (because, I think some folks might be missing this because it's on the Events board - which is where it should be, really). So, yeah - I'm 'a do-up a castin' thread. *huggles* EDIT: Link ~ www.whoniverserp.proboards.com/thread/3494/
