"Uhh... Doctor?" Amy called out in the direction of the telephone. "Is that ye?"
"Amelia Pond! I haven't heard from you since Christmas 2012, that was a fun one, you, me, Rory, the Dalek Death Star thing. Oh, and the Christmas turkey dinner! When did you learn to cook like that?"
So, it was the Doctor, at least, his rambling seemed to put her face in a less miserable look for a moment, relieved to hear another Time Lord. He might know a way to save her husband.
"We could really, really use yuir help... Somethin' terrible's happened ta tha Meddler..."
She bit her lip again, trying to hold the tears back. By Danu, how could that thing grab hold of her Meddler like that? How could it even have happened? Was he even still alive or was that thing she saw.. completely the Vashta Nerada taking the look of her husband to mess with her mind? But why would it?
"The Meddler?" She heard the Doctor ask, disbelief clear in his tone, she couldn't blame him. "Amelia, why are you with The Meddler?"
"We were going to-" Sisi's voice broke through the silent, hoarse with crying, yelling and fatigue. But the Doctor cut her off again.
"Never mind, I'm on my way. I can have the TARDIS track you by your cellphone signal. See you in just a few moments." And with that the phone line went dead and she swallowed heavily, tears stained eyes looking over at Amelia confused and anxiety. This was not the Dreamweaver Amelia Pond remembered well.
And true to his word, only a few moments later the Doctor entered the Meddlers TARDIS, his hair in mild disarray. He had been hurrying.
"Pond! Sisi! Where's The Meddler, what's happened." She heard him say, but her eyes widened and with her raised hand the TARDIS door closed behind him with a loud bang, leaving her shaking.
It was quite clear to see the Dreamweaver was a mess.
"He.. the Vashta Nerada took him." She saw him begin to speak but she held her hand up, he had to hear this first.
"They said, merged with him. They talked, D-Doctor. He.. h-he's gone. He turned into them, or he was consumed. I don't know w-which." She said, her voice trembling, the image of her physique wavering with surrounding golden light. She was having trouble keeping her glamour up.
"I need your help. I can't do this on my own. I can't kill him." She whispered, tears coming down her face again.

Still scrubbing at grease-stained hands with a rag, Kiki strolled through the corridors of the Meddler's TARDIS. She was feeling good. Frustrated, but good. Her efforts to build a working Zeitdrakkar were hampered by her increasing realization that, while she knew how to maintain one, she didn't actually understand how they worked. Yep. Probably gonna have to go steal one, she decided. But that wasn't going to happen until Meds and Sisi wrapped up their war against alternate-Gallifrey. "My eyes went ooh," she sang, cheerfully, "My voice just cooed. My mind let loose. I'll stay forever, it's up to you." She pushed open the door to the main control room, figuring she'd check in with Tonks about what Meds and Sisi and Amy were up to before hitting the tub. "Doctor I want you," she continued to sing, oblivious to her surroundings, "Ooh, my Doctor Wanna Do." "Pond! Sisi! Where's The Meddler, what's happened.""I can't get over you, Dr. do anything that ya Wanna Do..." He voice trailed away as she registered that the speaker was the Doctor. Her face flushed nearly as scarlet as her hair, and she felt suddenly and acutely exposed with the upper half of her coveralls tied off around her waist and her grease-stained white t-shirt. But then his words registered an instant later. Embarrasment forgotten in a wash of concern, she raced over to throw her arms around her sister. "What? Did something happen..?" Sisi was a mess. Tear-stained and trembling, voice hoarse. "He.. the Vashta Nerada took him.""WHAT?" Kiki hugged her sister tighter. "Oh god, no..." She saw him begin to speak but she held her hand up, he had to hear this first.
I can't kill him." She whispered, tears coming down her face again."You... you can help him, right Doc?" Kiki asked. "I mean, that's what you do. You save people, right?"

"Pond! Sisi! Where's The Meddler, what's happened?"
This was really Sisi’s question to answer – the Meddler was her husband… Amy glanced at the Dreamweaver and let her explain. Besides, she would probably know best how to describe what had happened – Amy herself was still a bit lost.
And, she still had that crystal-thingie that the Meddler had dropped just before it had happened – Amy was still sort of nervously fidgeting with it in her pocket.
But then, the sound of carefree singing entered the room. Kiki stopped singing as soon as she saw who had just joined them, and then she lavished her attentions on her woeful sister.
Embarrassment forgotten in a wash of concern, she raced over to throw her arms around her sister. "What? Did something happen..?"
"He.. the Vashta Nerada took him." Sisi saw him begin to speak but she held her hand up, he had to hear this first. "They said, merged with him. They talked, D-Doctor. He.. h-he's gone. He turned into them, or he was consumed. I don't know w-which."
Amy nodded solemnly. That was about it, in a nutshell, and it sounded so grim.
"I need your help. I can't do this on my own. I can't kill him." Sisi whispered, tears coming down her face again.
Amy’s heart went out to Sisi. She couldn’t imagine what she was going through… And, she couldn’t imagine killing the Meddler, either – even if it wasn’t really him anymore… Amy glanced at the Doctor, hopeful that he would somehow have a ‘magic’ answer for their predicament.
If he didn’t… Well, Amy didn’t want to think about it. It would be too horrible.
"You... you can help him, right Doc?" Kiki asked. "I mean, that's what you do. You save people, right?"
Nervously, Amy looked at the Doctor and wondered if they were right in calling him for help – he had to have some sort of idea where to start, at least… Right? He always seemed to know just what to do before, in times of crisis.

It was quite clear to see the Dreamweaver was a mess, and it took the Doctor aback. Last time he'd seen her, she'd been calm. In control. But now.
"He.. the Vashta Nerada took him."
"What?" the Doctor started, shocked, his voice echoed by Kiki's startled exclamation.
The Dreamweaver held up her hand, shuddering with the effort of controlling herself. "They said, merged with him. They talked, D-Doctor. He.. h-he's gone. He turned into them, or he was consumed. I don't know w-which."
His face went pale at her words.
"I need your help. I can't do this on my own. I can't kill him." She whispered, tears coming down her face again.
"You... you can help him, right Doc?" Kiki asked. "I mean, that's what you do. You save people, right?"
He thought hard, acutely aware of the eyes of the three women on him and the pressure of the attention of the Meddler's TARDIS. Of course I can't, is what he wanted to say. You just said he's been eaten!
When in doubt, bluff hard. Words to live by, for over a thousand years.
"Yeah," he said, forcing a grin. He brought up one hand in front of him, snapping his fingers and holding up his index finger. "Course I can. That's exactly what I do. I save people."
He thought wildly, wondering what he could do. And then the outlines of a plan began to form.
"Right. We need more information." Thoughts flickered like lightning through his mind." He pointed. "Kiki! Get me a bioscanner. And a full spectrum emmissions detector."
"Right," Kiki nodded, hugging her sister a final time. "I'll be back, fast as I can," she called, dashing from the room
He pointed again. "Pond! Why are you here? No, actually, scratch that. I'm in my own past here, so this could get awkward. You're with Kiki for the moment. Go catch up with her, and tell her I need the Meddler's toolkit. Go! Shoo! Clock's ticking!"
He turned, started to point, then stopped. Dropping to one knee, he took the Dreamweaver's hands in his own. "I know what this is like for you." His voice was soft and serious. "I've lost family before. My daughters. Both of them. But you have a sister who isn't a Sidhe yet, and three beautiful children, and you need to be strong for them. They need you to be strong for them."
A pause.
"We'll get him back, Dreamweaver. Like your sister said, that's what I do. I save people."
He hoped he wasn't lying.

She could feel his uncertainty, and for a moment though that even he could not help her. Kiki's arms around her were a consolation, and her hands held tight to her for support.
"Yeah," he said, forcing a grin. He brought up one hand in front of him, snapping his fingers and holding up his index finger. "Course I can. That's exactly what I do. I save people."
But if he was uncertain, he certainly faked it very well. Maybe for his own sake as well as her own.
She straightened herself, still shaking but able to keep herself up. She had to get herself together and forget the image that still burned in her mind. Her husband, pale, black hair and literally a shadow of himself.
But the Doctor was in front on her, on one knee and she caught herself gasping as he took her hand, her muscles tensing.
"I know what this is like for you." His voice was soft and serious. "I've lost family before. My daughters. Both of them. But you have a sister who isn't a Sidhe yet, and three beautiful children, and you need to be strong for them. They need you to be strong for them."
She stilled, he was right. She still had Kiki, and her three children who needed her, specially now their father wasn't around any more. She pushed back her tears, her shoulders squaring and the miserable look slipping off her, even just for a bit. He was right, she needed to be strong.
He lost both his children, she never knew that. She did not know how to respond to that, other then some kind of strange kinship.
"We'll get him back, Dreamweaver. Like your sister said, that's what I do. I save people."
She took a deep breath and forced back the last of her tears, her voice still raw when she managed to break sound from it. She needed to get her trembling hands under control.
"I won't allow the Vashta Nerada to make use of him like this, he wouldn't want that e-either." She pinched the bridge of her nose, willing the upcoming tears to go away again. A deep breath and she continued. "I just need to know a way to bring him back. I noticed they do not tolerate light, when he saw my true form he was actually screaming in pain. I just.."
She sighed, suddenly at loss for words. Sinking down to the Doctor's level she kneeled next to him.
"Amy.. the reason we were there in the first place is because we wanted to get River Song out of the Core Data computer.. the Meddler knew ways, all he needed was her bio signature and her conciousness.. all stored on there. I saw Amy grab the download crystal before we left.."

He pointed again. "Pond! Why are you here? No, actually, scratch that. I'm in my own past here, so this could get awkward. You're with Kiki for the moment. Go catch up with her, and tell her I need the Meddler's toolkit. Go! Shoo! Clock's ticking!"
Amy sort of stood there and blinked at the Doctor. He'd just thrown a lot of things at her all at once: asking why she was here (that was a whole other story in and of itself), informing her that he was older than the Doctor she knew (so, logically... he ought to remember her disappearance after they'd met Churchill and foiled the Daleks), and then to follow after Kiki and tell her they also needed the Meddler's toolkit.
After a moment, Amy nodded her understanding - she wasn't stupid, it's just that the human mind can't be expected to work at the same pace as that of a seasoned Time Lord - and Amy took off after Kiki, leaving the Doctor and the Dreamweaver alone, presumably to come up with some sort of plan of action.
"Kiki! Wait for me!" Amy called out as she ran after the other girl - but, Amy wasn't nearly as familiar with the hallways in this TARDIS as Kiki was, and the ginger was afraid she'd somehow manage to get herself lost.
"We need tha Meddler's toolkit, too," Amy added, hoping that even if Kiki did accidentally lose Amy in these labyrinthine corridors, that she'd at least hear that the Doctor needed something else, too - besides a full-spectrum emissions detector (whatever that was).
"Kiki...?" Amy asked, slowing down and looking around. She was sure she could find her way back to the control room, but... she wasn't sure where to go to find the lithe redhead, so she slowed down to a halt and tried to listen for the other girl - or anyone else who might be nearby, for that matter.

Kiki sprinted down one of the endless, identical stone halls of the TARDIS, heading for the Infirmary. She'd hit there, grab a bioscanner - there had to be one there, right? - and hit Med's high-energy workshop on the way back. "Kiki! Wait for me!" Amy's voice echoed distantly, and she skidded to a halt. Judging the echoes - and, more usefully, taking a guess at where Amy was likely to be - Kiki headed back. "We need tha Meddler's toolkit, too," the other redhead's voice echoed, followed shortly thereafter by a hesitant "Kiki..?"Kiki rounded a corner to find Amy looking back and forth in an effort to decide which way to go. "A little lost?" she asked with a smile. "I know, right? The TARDIS is, like, huge." She gestured behind her with her thumb. "Infirmary's this way. C'mon. We can, like, get the rest of the stuff on the way back?"
After a minute of walking, Kiki broke the silence. "So, like, is the Doctor's TARDIS this big? Because I've only seen one room in it, and that was, like, the control room? And it was totally smaller than Med's control room." And then she sighed. "Don't mind me. I'm just, y'know, worried. It's totally the wrong time to gossip about who's bigger."
The Infirmary was the Meddler's woefully inappropriate name for a room that was - by most standards - a masterpiece of medical technology. Hexagonal in cross section, like so many rooms aboard his TARDIS, it was dominated by a central column of softly glowing white crystal that bristled with delicate armatures. Six structures that could have been hospital beds, recliners, or capsule hotel rooms radiated from the central column, softly glowing with displays. Kiki rummaged around in the cabinets that lined the walls. "Whoo!" she shouted exultantly, holding a hand-sized object triumphantly above her head. "One bioscanner!" (OOC: Yeah, I packed a bunch into Kiki's post. I wanted it to feel like she's in a bit of a hurry. Also, for what it's worth, she's a redhead like her twin sister.)

The Doctor breathed a soft sigh of relief as the Dreamweaver responded to his words.
I just.."
"Light?" he said, nodding. "That's good. Light's good. Once we get a solid look at what exactly they've done to him..."
His voice trailed away as the Dreamweaver knelt down next to him.
"Amy.. the reason we were there in the first place is because we wanted to get River Song out of the Core Data computer.."
"River..." he echoed, clenching his fist and looking away suddenly, blinking away what he knew weren't tears. "Why..?"
"The Meddler knew ways, all he needed was her bio signature and her conciousness.. all stored on there. I saw Amy grab the download crystal before we left.."
"Why would he...?" And then he made the connection, realizing when this was and remembering the chaos of the final hours of that other Gallifrey. The Meddler had needed other Time Lords, clearly. Time Lords Gallifrey wouldn't know about.
He gritted his teeth. No time to think about it, now. About her, now. There was work to do.
"It's possible, then, that the Library backed him up as well." He rose, dusting off his knees. "That's a backup plan, though."
He smiled, offering the Dreamweaver a hand up and producing his sonic screwdriver from a coat pocket. "For now, let me see what I'll be able to do with... this... horrorific kludge your husband calls a console."
The Doctor eyed the rebuilt and modified control panels dubiously. "Which... is this the navigation panel? Because we'll need to network the bioscanner and the emmissions detector through the interstitial antenna and into the astral map - so we can get a look at what the Vashta Nerada have done to the Meddler - and I don't recognize more than one system in three on these panels."
(OOC: Meddler will pass this round.)

"Light?" he said, nodding. "That's good. Light's good. Once we get a solid look at what exactly they've done to him..."
"That reminds me," she cut him off. "We should hermetically seal the TARDIS. He travels like them now, through the shadows. I saw him do it and if I can get through the communicator systems when I drop my physical form.. so can he. All he needs are shadows."
She looked around a little nervous at that, she didn't know if the TARDIS would recognise him as her Master and friend, she hoped not. She sighed and knelt next to him.
"Amy.. the reason we were there in the first place is because we wanted to get River Song out of the Core Data computer.."
"River..." he echoed after her, raising her brow as he clenched his fist and looked away suddenly so she couldn't see his face. [/i]"Why..?"[/i] His tight voice was unmistakable. "Why would he...?"
"We need her, Doctor. Together with me River is the only Time Lord new Gallifrey does not know about, and we need her expertise. Hell, I need her expertise. We're both war trained, and together with her I stand at least a bit of a chance would things get very ugly."
But he didn't need her explanation to know what was going on, why they needed her, she could see it on his face.
"The Meddler knew ways, all he needed was her bio signature and her conciousness.. all stored on there. I saw Amy grab the download crystal before we left.."
"It's possible, then, that the Library backed him up as well." He rose, dusting off his knees. "That's a backup plan, though."
Her eyes widened in shock, her mouth opening in a slight 'oh' before she smiled, enlightening her face. "That's right.. you're right! Cal was still active before it all happened."
There was still hope then, real evidence instead of just guesswork. This seemed to brighten her spirits somewhat, enough to give her that kickstart to get going. She nodded and took his hand, getting back up to her feet with him.
"For now, let me see what I'll be able to do with... this... horrorific kludge your husband calls a console."
She couldn't help but shake her head and chuckle, wiping away the nearly dried tears from her cheeks.
"He would have a fit if he heard you say that, you know." She said with a smile, she could almost see her husband bristle at the words.
"Which... is this the navigation panel? Because we'll need to network the bioscanner and the emmissions detector through the interstitial antenna and into the astral map - so we can get a look at what the Vashta Nerada have done to the Meddler - and I don't recognize more than one system in three on these panels."
"I can pilot her no problem, the Meddler taught me how to. She's a little younger then your TARDIS is, but has a faster flight path. Our main tissue bioscanner is located in the infirmary though, but I'm sure I can transmit the signal to here.." Her hands slid over the panels, barely touching them, her eyes coming aglow as she connected to the gestalt, the Time Rotor giving an acknowledging roar at her presence. She blinked suddenly, her head cocking as the Gestalt gave a low humming noise.
Sisi turned to look behind her at the Doctor.
"Remember how I had you communicate with your TARDIS? Give me your hand, she says that her telling you will go faster. I don't know all of her hardware yet."
She held out her hand to him, the skin of her palm slightly golden aglow.

"Light?" the Doctor said, nodding.
"Right! Then we should... wait. You can travel through communicators?" The Doctor blinked, assimilating the information. "Oh. Electromagnetic form, like your kids have. Will have. Spoiler. Forget I said that. But let's turn those off, shall we? The communicators. Not the children. Leave them on."
The conversation turned to why the Meddler and his family were in the Library, and to the fact that they had gotten a download of River Song's mind.
There were a score of pedantic, highly technical corrections on the tip of his tongue. But he looked at the hope in her eyes, and settled for smiling and offering her a hand up. As he did, he produced his sonic screwdriver from a coat pocket and looked at the central control column. "For now, let me see what I'll be able to do with... this... horrorific kludge your husband calls a console."
She couldn't help but shake her head and chuckle, wiping away the nearly dried tears from her cheeks. "He would have a fit if he heard you say that, you know."
"Yeah? Well, it's not my fault he's rewired and custom-fitted the systems, and changed the architecure from the default settings." The Doctor eyed the rebuilt and modified control panels dubiously. "Which... is this the navigation panel? Because we'll need to network the bioscanner and the emmissions detector through the interstitial antenna and into the astral map - so we can get a look at what the Vashta Nerada have done to the Meddler - and I don't recognize more than one system in three on these panels."
"I can pilot her no problem, the Meddler taught me how to. She's a little younger then your TARDIS is, but has a faster flight path."
"Great. That could solve the security concern, too. Dematerialize the ship, and the Meddler won't be able to slip aboard as easily."
"Our main tissue bioscanner is located in the infirmary though, but I'm sure I can transmit the signal to here.."
"Amy and your sister should be back with it soon, and I'd rather have it directly interfaced." He peered at another panel. "I think this is the astral map. But he's added three extra coordinate systems to it."
Her hands slid over the panels, barely touching them, her eyes coming aglow as she connected to the gestalt, the Time Rotor giving an acknowledging roar at her presence. She blinked suddenly, her head cocking as the Gestalt gave a low humming noise.
"Remember how I had you communicate with your TARDIS? Give me your hand, she says that her telling you will go faster. I don't know all of her hardware yet."
She held out her hand to him, the skin of her palm slightly golden aglow.
The Doctor hesitated. He'd had centuries of hard-won experience to teach him that touching the glowing thing was often a bad idea. Then, tenatively, he placed his hand on hers.
The gestalt hit him like a brick. Reflexively he clutched his masks around himself, cowering away from the communion that would lay bare all of his secrets.
::Calm yourself, Doctor.:: The voice/presence of the gestalt grated against his mind. Not out of cruelty, but simply because he didn't fit properly within the contours of an ancient and untamed shipmind that had grown symbiotically with and around and through its crew.
::Trying to,:: he managed to reply, straining to open up only as much as was necessary to communicate.
A tendril of thought snaked through his mind. The TARDIS? The Dreamweaver? With a shock than nearly shattered his control, he realized he couldn't tell the difference between them. But she - or they - were gentle and respectful, touching only where they had to and taking only what could not be avoided.
The Doctor's knees buckled, and he breathed hard as he leaned heavily on the console. "I'm... I'm not..." he started to say, hesitated, then started again. "I'm not advocating it - it's reprehensible - but I suddenly have more insight into why TARDIS maintenance regimens called for regular purging of the ego buffers."
He took a deep, shuddering breath and let it out slowly. "But yes, this all makes sense now." Awkwardly, he patted the console near the time rotor. "Thank you."
Another pause. "We'll get him back. I promise," he said, unsure if he was speaking to the Dreamweaver, or to the TARDIS, or - after the gestalt - if it made a difference.

OOC: I'm agonizing over how to reply - I haven't come close to forgetting that Amy has a tag here. However, based on our PMs about this thread regarding Amy, I am perfectly content to fast forward the plot a bit to a point where we're all on the same page again.

Her hand clutched around his as soon as his hand laid in hers, the bio-energy needed to make the bond shooting up his arm and straight into his brain. Through the haze of her own eyes, she could see his own eyes aglow before she concentrated on the voice that rang in both their heads.
::Calm yourself, Doctor.:: She heard it echo in her mind, she could feeling the man next to her trying to fight the presence of the TARDIS in his mind.
Time Lords and their secrets.
::Trying to,:: She heard his voice echo within her mind, her hand gave his a gentle squeeze of comfort. She knew how much it hurt her Meddler to make connection with the gestalt, even through his psionic circuit. She reached out to him, into him, with leading guidance of the gestalt and planted the idea in him, the surge of information absorbing in his brain causing a short flare of pain before it dulled down to a soft humming from her and the TARDIS. How to pilot this particular TARDIS. She saw his eyes widen as he looked at the console that now made sense to him.
She supported him as his knees bucked, but he clutched to the console.
"I'm... I'm not..." he started to say, hesitated, then started again. "I'm not advocating it - it's reprehensible - but I suddenly have more insight into why TARDIS maintenance regimens called for regular purging of the ego buffers."
::I'd rather -die-:: Both of them replied, simultaneously in his head. Both of them shied away from his mind.
"But yes, this all makes sense now." Awkwardly, he patted the console near the time rotor. "Thank you."
Her hand slipped from his, the last of the connection slipping away, leaving him alone to his thoughts. A soft glow remained in her eyes, confirming her still active connection with the gestalt. She'd know if something would be wrong before the Doctor would look up to the reader. Her eyes were staring at the central column, flitting back and forth like she was following something.
"We'll get him back. I promise," She heard him say beside her.
"Let's just hope it'll be in one piece." She said, her voice thick. Her body tensed suddenly, her eyes going wide.
"OurMyOur hopelovefuture." It echoed in her head.
She looked down at the golden band on her finger, her breath hitching.
They were handfastened.

"A little lost?" she asked with a smile. "I know, right? The TARDIS is, like, huge." She gestured behind her with her thumb. "Infirmary's this way. C'mon. We can, like, get the rest of the stuff on the way back?"
Amy nodded. She had also opened her mouth to say something in reply, but she couldn't get a word in - Kiki was just so energetic and bubbly, not to mention that they were on a mission and really ought to hurry things up a bit. Time did seem to be of the essence. So, Amy had just nodded and silently followed after Kiki, making darn sure to not lose sight of her again.
After a minute of walking, Kiki broke the silence. "So, like, is the Doctor's TARDIS this big? Because I've only seen one room in it, and that was, like, the control room? And it was totally smaller than Med's control room."
Amy laughed and shook her head. "Tha Doctor's TARDIS is quite huge - though, I dinna ken exactly how huge... I've nae really had tha chance ta explore..." Amy trailed off, but then picked up with, "Thinking 'bout it, I dinnae ken if I could properly answer that," Amy replied with a little bit of a smirk.
And then [Kiki] sighed. "Don't mind me. I'm just, y'know, worried. It's totally the wrong time to gossip about who's bigger."
She was right. The Meddler was, after all, either in a huge spot of trouble, or else he was... gone. This wasn't exactly the time for idle gossip. They had to focus, find what they had come down here for, and then hurry back up to the Doctor and the Dreamweaver. So, Amy sobered up her attitude and tried to stay out of Kiki's way when they got to the Infirmary.
"I hope ye know what ye're lookin' fer..." Amy said, trailing off as she looked about the room in wonder when they arrived. The Infirmary looked like... well... like something out of a sci-fi novel, what with all those little pod-beds and whatnot. Amy silently hoped that she would never have to find out what it was like inside those weird little pod-beds... Probably a bit claustrophobic inside. Amy would much prefer to lounge on a California King bed - something with plenty of room for sprawling out.
Kiki rummaged around in the cabinets that lined the walls. "Whoo!" she shouted exultantly, holding a hand-sized object triumphantly above her head. "One bioscanner!"
Amy tossed Kiki a proud smile and said, "Awesome! But... There's somethin' else - tha Doctor asked for tha Meddler's toolkit, too. D'ye happen ta ken where ta find that, too, Kiki?" the ginger asked. She was quite pleased with herself for having remembered that bit that the Doctor had requested after Kiki had bounded off into the depths of the TARDIS.

Kiki rummaged around in the cabinets that lined the walls. "Whoo!" she shouted exultantly, holding a hand-sized object triumphantly above her head. "One bioscanner!"
Amy tossed Kiki a proud smile and said, "Awesome!'
"I know!" Kiki giggled, stuffing the bioscanner into one of the pockets of her jumpsuit.
"But... There's somethin' else - tha Doctor asked for tha Meddler's toolkit, too. D'ye happen ta ken where ta find that, too, Kiki?"
She rested her chin on her palm, lips pursed in thought. "That could be... anything." Then she snapped her fingers. "Oh, no, I get it! Doc's working the console, right? C'mon!"
Legs flying, she dashed back into the hall.
Five minutes later, they were in a nondescript hemispherical room lined with shelves and random bits of machinery. Kiki was carefully - very carefully - moving a heap of open tomes and papers with one hand and tugging at a leather strap with the other.
"He calls this room his 'machine shop'," Kiki was explaining, still focused on the strap and the pile. "He builds things in here, sometimes."
The strap was eventually revealed to be connected to a battered leather satchel. "Since Doc's working on the console, I figure he'll need this. It's what Meds used when he overhauled Doc's controls."
The satchel came free, and Kiki carefully released the pile. It quivered a little, but didn't fall. Kiki relaxed, and then the pile fell over.
"Damnit. Here..." She tossed Amy the satchel, then began scooping up books and papers and tossing them back on the work table. "Not like he'll notice."
Finally, finished, she began to lead Amy back towards the console room. "Do... do you think Doc can do it?" she asked, hesitantly. "Really?"
