(For those who aren't already aware, Santa IS a real person in the Doctor Who canon)
Earth, December 1998.
Christmas Time is here. Time for Joy, Time for Cheer.
The legend of Santa Claus has been passed down for centuries, ever since the kind and generous acts of a man known as Saint Nicholas. Many people knew there was a Saint Nicholas, but over time, some people forget about him. Some have even thought he was nothing more than a simple myth. Parents often think the other left special presents for their children on Christmas morning, only to be reminded later that was not the truth at all.
The truth was, Santa Claus did exist. He did live in the North Pole, and despite efforts to find him, the perception filter around his workshop, as well as a little bit of "Christmas Magic" kept explorers from finding it. Unless of course, Santa lets them see it.
The elves were busy at work, meeting their quota's by the deadline. Their deadline, of course, was Christmas Eve.
But this year there was a dark shadow hanging over Santa's workshop.

If the Doctor had to choose the human holiday that he always had loved the most, then he would choose Christmas without any hesitation. It was a time of hope and good cheer. It was a time to spend with family and friends. One of the best traditions, though, was exchanging gifts. Better yet, not all of those gifts that were exchanged came from the people who celebrated Christmas. Santa Claus was real. Not many parents knew that when they were telling stories about that jolly man to their children that they were really telling their kids the truth.
The Doctor knew exactly where Santa lived (the tales had gotten that right), just as he also knew that any tricks Santa had up his sleeves to keep his workplace a hidden secret would be useless when the Doctor's mind was combined with his sonic screwdriver. And he wouldn't be going to the North Pole alone. As many times as he tried to explain Christmas and Santa Claus to Nyssa, she seemed not to believe him or, when she did understand him, she brought up many good and logical questions that the Doctor couldn't answer but surely Santa could say a thing or two about what she wanted to know.
The TARDIS materialized seemingly out of thin air. Bundled in a white parka, with his sonic screwdriver in his hand, the Doctor stepped outside. "I still don't understand why Santa thought that it would be a good idea to do his work from here," he mused more to himself than to Nyssa. He switched on his sonic screwdriver and scanned their surrounding area.
It wasn't long before he hit the jackpot. Keeping his sonic screwdriver aimed at a certain area, Santa's workshop slowly began to emerge. "A perception filter," he said, although he was sure that Nyssa knew what it was, "Santa does not like surprise visitors because his Elves would never get any work done then." The Doctor realized the irony of his statement, seeing as they were just that: surprise visitors. But they would only stay as long as they needed for Nyssa to understand Christmas. The front door was, not surprisingly, unlocked when the Doctor tried the knob. He pushed it open and gestured for Nyssa to step inside. "After you."

The entire concept of Christmas was foreign to Nyssa. It wasn't that the exchange of gifts was unheard of on Traken. There were plenty of traditions for celebrating the turning of the seasons. But Traken had never particularly needed to have a special holiday to celebrate good will and peace to all. At least, they hadn't in Nyssa's time. She could remember all to well the more primeval era she had seen with the Doctor when she had fallen ill in the past.
So Christmas was new. The Doctor seemed particularly excited though, and he was particularly keen on her meeting this Santa Claus.
Well, Nyssa had to admit that anyone who engaged in giving gifts out to 'good children' was either exceptional at extortion or a particularly kind person that Nyssa would love to meet.
Stepping outside the TARDIS doors into the snow, she wrapped her arms around her waist within the first few moments.
"Well, I can say with certainty that it is cold. Are you sure this is the right place and you didn't strand us in Alaska again?"
He seemed determined though, explaining about the perception filter as the buzzing of his sonic slowly brought a workshop into view.
, "Santa does not like surprise visitors because his Elves would never get any work done then."
"A reasonable precaution then," Nyssa said calmly. She smiled when the Doctor opened the doors for them,"Alright then, Doctor. Let's go meet this Santa Claus of yours."
