Who Are They?
The Daleks still exist, even in deep Future History, but they are no longer a unified force. Without the fanatical iron will of Davros, and with many claimants to the Throne of Skaro, they have fractured and evolved along many lines. The Hive is merely one of many of these offshoots.
What Are They?
Implacable enemies of the other, the Hive bears many similarities with the Daleks of previous epochs of History, and even to the other Dalek offshoots. They remain horrific mutants, dependent on their travel machines to move about, to work, and to kill. The Hive has evolved into an eusocial structure, a nearly complete group intelligence bound by the Pathweb and existing as extensions of their Emperor.
There are not many Daleks in the Hive. There is one Dalek, the Emperor, with a million million bodies. She (as much as gender matters to the Hive) may exert her intelligence through any Dalek of the Hive. All the Hive obeys the silent dictates of the Emperor, acting and coordinating in a silence that those who are accustomed to other Daleks find unnerving. The only sounds they make are the sounds of their movement, or their deep droning speech when the Hive addresses outsiders - words that are spoken by all the Hive in earshot, simultaneously.
There are many Hives, each of which has an Emperor. Every Hive Dalek is an enemy of all that is not the Hive, including the other Hives. All other life is the enemy. All other life must be exterminated.
Where Can They Be Found?
Hives may be found throughout the 54 bright and dim and dwarf galaxies of the Local Group containing Mutter's Spiral, and Hive fleets have been encountered slowly making their way into the greater Virgo Supercluster. They are considered an extinction-level threat by all starfaring civilizations, even more so than the other offshoots of the Dalek clade.
