I: General Forum Conduct - Etiquette
• The Staff must first approve your character's application before you can roleplay in either a Board Thread or in the Shoutbox. Pending characters characters waiting on readoption or those in trial thrads cannot play in the Shoutbox or make threads (stories) with other players yet. Characters involved in trial threads are only allowed to make IC (in-character) posts to their trial threads until they are fully approved (this includes plotters and planning threads). • Treat each other with respect and be polite. No derogatory remarks about anyone, their genetic or national heritage, sex, religion, personal hygiene, gender, sexual orientation, lifestyle choices, etc. No making sexual or threatening remarks towards other members; cyberbullying will not be tolerated. Don't flame or otherwise engage in unwanted criticism, pester people for replies or to RP, and above all, keep it positive. • We also ask that you respect the Staff members, who all work for the benefit of The Whoniverse RP and its playership. Please don’t argue with the Staff – we are here to help you and keep the board running smoothly. • No posting of personal information, including but not limited to full name, address, photographs of you and/or your family, bank information, etc. on the forum – it is public. This is for your safety.
• No posting anything (pictures, video, text, or LINKS to such) explicitly violent or sexual. Likewise, do not post anything inherently gory or depicting realistic animal abuse, etc. • Please keep the language watershed (around PG-13) and free of F-bombs in the PG-13 parts of the site. This includes the C-box and the Shoutbox. • Religious discussions or religion influenced speeches are not allowed outside of the Theology board. This because many of us are not of the same religion, or religious at all for that matter. This way we keep religious fights to a minimum and people won't feel offended. • If you’d like to advertise another forum, please put your advertising in the correct place, here – please do not advertise in the C-Box, the S-box, or anywhere else. Do not use this website for selling or trading goods or other paid goods and services. • No spam! Spam will be deleted. The associated account will be blocked and deleted.

II: C-Box (Chatbox) and S-box (Shoutbox) Rules
• Prospective players, guests, and current members are welcome to chat in the OOC C-box. However, you must have an active, approved character to roleplay in the IC S-box (or in threads). Pending characters, characters waiting on readoption or those in trial threads cannot play in the Shoutbox until they have been approved. • The C-Box and the S-box are both PG-13. Please be aware there are topics that are not allowed for on-site play under the site rules. These include (but are not limited to) suicide/self harm, realistic animal abuse, or extreme violence. • The C-Box is primarily intended for out of character conversation. The S-box is primarily intended for in-character conversation. A little cross-over is understandable and acceptable, but lengthy chatplays or conversations should be moved to the appropriate channel. • The S-box is not considered to be board/site canon. • IC and OOC comments are to be kept separated. IC is for use of your character only, while OOC is for your personal comments. Please distinguish between the two. • Please do not advertise for your threads or for your characters in the C-Box. It’s fine to give or get a kudos here or there, work out a few details before heading to PMs, or to be excited when you’re approved, but the C-box’s purpose is not to plan or solicit threads. This goes double for the S-box, which is an IC-roleplay area. Use private messages (PMs), Planning threads, or Individual Plot Pages. • If you are banned in the C-box, do not use the S-box to voice your grievances. If you do, your C-Box ban will become a site-wide ban for the duration.

III: Whoniverse Application Rules & Process
~~~
• Canon Characters: Please check to see if the character you want to apply for is available if they are a Canon. We don’t allow duplicates of Canon characters or original characters (OCs) with the exception that each regeneration of the Doctor, who counts as its own Canon character. If you are applying for a Doctor or Canon character you must demonstrate that you understand their history well and can write for their character on your application. • Original Characters: We accept original characters (OCs) of a person’s own design. Please read over the Submission Guidelines. Some species and groups have subpages with additional guidelines (for example, Time Lords). • Character Application Types: We have four character classifications with regard to Activity on the Whoniverse board – Regular/Full Character, NPC, Temp, or Axis/Multiverse. Please note which of the four your character is – Full character is default and subject to Activity Check rules. For details on each class, see Submission Guidelines. • Due to the medium of a writing-based roleplay, a certain amount of writing skills are necessary for everyone to participate. Please be literate. Check your spelling and grammar (use a spellchecker). No talking in code, chatchat, text-talk, or lolspeak, etc. Please use the third person, past tense style of writing along with proper punctuation, grammar and spelling. If you have a particular difficulty with writing (for example, dyslexia), then feel free to PM a staff member if you wish so we are aware of it and can take it into consideration during application processing. • No plagiarism (copy and paste off Who information sites for example). Please use your own words. Though it is easier to plagiarize Canon characters, please avoid copying anything but your own work. You may use the Internet to get your basic facts straight but we need to see how you describe the character in your own words, and also how you write. *New members (Current Members)*
• Sign up for an account – if you are planning on applying for a Canon, please sign up under a username that is not the character you wish to apply for if it is your first application with us. ( If you already have one account/character with us, apply for any new characters with your main account - do not make a new account until after your new character has been approved, Canon or Original.). Your account should receive a greeting email with relevant links to help you get started. • Read all the Forum Rules (this document) and ‘sign’ when you are finished by posting a note with your account. • Read the full Character Submission Guidelines and fill out the site's Character Application form - follow the directions provided. Please note that the Staff will only review applications that use our site's template. Applications that use non-site/custom templates will be moved to Pending/Denied status without having been reviewed. Some minor adjustment to our site's template, such as adding additional bullet points/information, is acceptable as long as it does not change the overall format of the template. Likewise, if we come across any alterations that make the application too difficult to read, we will be unable to give it a review, and it will go into the Pending/Denied folder.• Post your finished character application to the Character Sign up and Creation area as a new thread. The topic title should be the name of your character. • Admins/Mods will review your application and gather notes. They may ask for clarifications, questions or changes and post these as notes to the application. Staff do not preview applications before they are reviewed by the full staff complement. • If you receive notes or questions posted to your application, please edit your application to address them and post a note saying when you are finished. It will then be reviewed again. There can be up to 3 rounds of edits before the application will be denied. • It usually takes 3 days to 1 week for the Admin/Mods to check out an application and gather their notes – this varies on the application and on Staff availability. If you don’t see any notes posted to your application or approval notification within one week, please PM Staff to check on its status. We will get back to you as soon as possible. • An applicant will be given 2 weeks from post date of the Moderator/Admin notes to make requested edits before the character is denied. • If you post a WIP (work in progress) application, please make sure you post a ‘finished’ post to bump your application when you are done - don't just change the title by removing (WIP). This is so the Staff will be able to know it is finished and review it for you! The 'finished post' bumps it to 'new' status! Please note that WIP applications are not placeholders for a canon character and the application will not be reviewed by Staff until it is completed. Others on the board are free to post an application for the same canon character, if so desired. • At times during the application process there may be more than one application that comes in for a Canon character in the same window of time. Unless Staff make a specific 'casting call' announcement (for example, a new Doctor opening up), the Staff will treat this on a case-by-case basis. Staff may give a trial thread for a period of time before deciding which will get the role (like an audition) or the Admin/Mod team may pick out the one they feel is the strongest application. • Once you receive an approval note and you're ready to RP! You can change the nickname of your account to your character’s name. Please post your Face Claim and your preferred nickname to Who’s Who thread. • Starting roleplayers may only have ONE character to begin with. If you manage to keep posting on your first character's account regularly for a month, the Staff may decide to allow you to have a second character, and so on. Please wait at least until the next calendar month after your last character approval before posting an application for another.
IV: Character Activity Rules
• Character Activity is checked each month. Every Regular, approved character should make a minimum of one in-character post per calendar month. Temp characters, NPCs (non-player characters) and Axis/Multiverse-only characters are waived from this rule. The consequence for inactivity is that your character's application will be relocated to the Graveyard (for OCs) or the Adoption thread (for Canon). • Writers stand to lose their NPCs along with their Full Characters if they fail to make their A/C with any of their Full Characters. This is because a player must have at least one active Full Character to have any NPCs. This can put NPCs (and any other lost characters) in danger of being adopted or Temped by someone else while they are unclaimed! To gain an NPC back, writers must first get a Full Character through the Readoption process. Once they have an active Full character again, they can pick up one of their NPCs (or another character if it is still open) - see Readoption for details. • Readoption: You may request to readopt your lost character by posting to their application thread. If this is your only character, you may be able to get it back right away, or by the following month if you have other active characters. If you have lost more than one character due to inactivity, you will be able to readopt one at a time (regardless of their character-type: Full, NPC, Temp/Understudy, Multiverse/Axis), not all at once. Just like with new character applications, multiple readoptions will need to be spaced out one per month (after the following month's Activity Check) and will need to pass the following month's Activity Check. All characters will need to make a total of 2 IC posts by month's end, rather than the normal 1 - see full details here. If your account has been locked, please PM the staff. • Leave of Absence (LoA): All characters are allowed a Leave of Absence of up to 2 calendar months. If you need to be away for a period of time, please put up a request for a Leave of Absence in the Hello/Goodbye forum and/or contact the Admin/Mod team. Include a list of your active characters and a time-frame of how long you are planning on being away (if you know). • Special circumstances: Sometimes you can’t even leave a LoA notification because something unexpected has happened. PM the Staff when you can. We may be able to waive that month's posting requirement for you. However, after 2 months of having made no in-character posts, your character will be put up for adoption (or sent to the graveyard). • Waiting on a turn: If you find yourself unable to post to a thread because you are waiting on someone else’s turn, the Staff will take that into consideration and will likely grant you a "free pass" -- but, if you do find yourself in this predicament, we encourage you to try to start a new thread with someone else; if you get stuck, or if you are worried, please feel free to PM a Staff member. After 2 months of having made no in-character posts, your character will be put up for adoption (or sent to the graveyard). • Additional characters: the Staff asks that you first make the minimum monthly post count for the one(s) that you currently write for before applying for another character. Normally, we ask for a month between new character adoptions, per member; however, losing a character due to inactivity can extend this waiting period for a new character's approval by one more month. Alternatively, if you opt to retire a character, rather than have them lost due to inactivity, there will be no penalty.
V: Role-Playing/Whoniverse General Rules
• Try to keep to the spirit of Doctor Who. It's a children's series at heart. [There is a is a 'Mature Section' (T+) but we want to only use it on exception. Full rules and board-access requests go here.] The staff reserve the right to make the final call on anything that they feel is too violent or racy to remove it. These include (but are not limited to) suicide/self-harm, realistic animal abuse, dubious/consent matters, or other forms of extreme violence or any other content deemed objectionable. If your character hits our "squick" or “dark” buttons too hard, we may ask you to make some edits or remove the post entirely. • No high fantasy RP will be permitted. This is Doctor Who - no spell casting, fortune telling, astrology, other forms of divination, witchcraft, communication with the dead allowed unless scientifically explainable. You want to RP something that is bordering high fantasy? Think up or find a well substantiated scientific explanation for the 'occult/magic' what is happening. Technobabble away! • Godmoding or Powerplaying are not allowed - you do not have control of other people's characters. Godmodding is being invincible/unbeatable/always right. Powerplaying is taking control of other players' characters without their consent to make them speak or behave out of character or against their players' wishes. Be courteous to your fellow players and allow them space to react and interact.
VI: Thread Posting Rules
• Generally, most writers here use third person, past tense. Because this is a collaborative writing roleplay, it is easier to use the same grammar structure as your writing partners (though there may be reasons to use other tenses for story purposes). • Threads cannot be locked without mutual agreement from those involved. Threads also should not be willfully abandoned/neglected. If you are suffering from a lack of muse, please try and spark up some ideas with the other person/people involved in that particular thread. If those involved in the thread reach an impasse and no agreement can be made on how or whether or not to continue it, then the thread can be locked. Ideally, however, if any member wishes to exit a thread, it is preferred that they simply write out their character -- there's plenty of timey-wimey reasons that you could use to call them away, should you have need. Please see here for more information. • To unlock a thread and return it to active, reach out to your participants/writing partners in that thread and see if they wish to continue it. Then, send a note to an Admin or Mod to unlock it. • If a thread is in planning and marked as ‘OPEN’ and has not yet begun, you may ask to write with the others in that thread by posting a note into it. If a thread is marked CLOSED or has specific characters mentioned in the title or Planning thread, it is (generally) closed to those characters (barring invitation).
VII: Thread Content Rules • Please keep all Out of Character (OOC) discussion to the assigned Out of Character Discussion threads. • No posting anything (pictures, video, text, or LINKS) explicitly violent, gory, violent, or sexual. In the case of violence, a little blood is a part of life - gore is not. In the case of sex, stroking a thigh is fun! Stroking a sexually explicit place is not acceptable. In the case of the T+ Board, you must follow the rules of that board as stated. If a PG-13 thread starts to need a higher rating, you can ask an Admin or Mod to move it to this board if all the RPers in the thread agree. • In-Character (IC) posts must be at least 1 paragraph or 5 full sentences. If the post is under 5 sentences, it will not be counted for the monthly Activity Check. • When having a character use a foreign/alien language, please provide an English translation somewhere within your post -- for example, within an OOC note which you may wish to place beneath a line break or a spoiler tag at the bottom of your post (if you don't know how, please feel free to ask!).
• We strongly encourage interaction with a variety of characters.
VIII: Technical & Account Specification Rules
• You may have more than one account – please let the staff know if you create additional accounts so that they can keep track of which accounts belong to whom. • When your character is approved, please be prepared to have a singular account devoted to them. • You may ‘stack’ multiple NPCs or Temp characters on a pre-existing account – please let the Staff know which accounts are stacked. Please remember that Temp character or NPC posts from that account will not count toward the monthly Activity Check. • Avatars may be 150x150 pixels maximum in .jpg or .gif format. Signatures and Banners may be 500x300 pixels maximum in .jpg or .gif. Signatures or avatars over this limit or saved in another format (like .png) will be DELETED.
UPDATE: The Staff has made a slight adjustment to the wait-time between character applications/approvals. Now, we are asking members to wait a maximum of 30 days, or at least until the calendar rolls over to the next month. This will shorten the wait-time between character approvals, but still only allow one per month (regardless of their character-type: Full, NPC, Temp/Understudy, Multiverse/Axis).
When readopting/reactivating inactive characters, the Rules remain unchanged, and you will be expected to be making an additional (2nd) post for their first full month back on the site.
As always, if you've got any questions, please PM one or all of us. <3
UPDATE: Staff have also clarified the meaning of and slightly expanded current rules in a few instances. Please look out for green text. Canons are no longer "first come, first serve" - this sentence was originally meant to indicate that a new applicant should check to see if the canon they wanted to apply for was available. This has been clarified in the current rules. Thank you!
UPDATE: The Staff has agreed to remove the following from the Character Activity Rules, in an effort to encourage more posting and plotting within the Axis/Multiverse boards:
With this update, posts made within the Axis/Multiverse boards by your Regular Characters will now be counted toward your regular activity.
Axis/Multiverse Characters, like NPCs and Temps, are still exempt from regular activity checks.
