After all the terrible stories of Angels, they hadn't actually come across one yet. Things were going smoothly so far. She didn't expect it to last. Sarah Jane hesitated a moment when the Doctor was so unceremoniously heading out of the safety of the TARDIS.
When he smiled and held out his hand, her worry fell away. If he wasn't frightened, she wouldn't be either. Besides, all she needed to to was not to blink.
Taking the warm comfort of his hand in her own, Sarah Jane followed the Doctor.

Stepping outside with his companion, the Doctor looked around. A cold wind swept over the grass and caused his cape to flap in the air. It felt as though they were somewhere near the sea, perhaps on a cliff. Or maybe that was just him. It didn't really matter. The Time Lord had to focus on what he was here for. What he was here for, however, didn't seem to be showing up as of yet, as there was no future TARDIS materializing.
"We must have got up here before they did," the Doctor said to Sarah Jane. "No doubt the pair of them will be up here very soon. I just hope they didn't get into...trouble..." His voice trailed off as his eyes fell on something behind Sarah. And it was not good. He would've blinked to test if he was seeing things or not, but that would be a very bad idea if the thing really was there.
A Weeping Angel. Not right behind Sarah Jane's back, but not that far away from them both. So this was the threat they had to deal with. The question was how. The Doctor's older self was the one who had experience with these creatures, but he hadn't appeared just yet. So the Third tried to think of what to do. He leaned close to whisper in his companion's ear. "Sarah. Whatever you do, keep calm, and do not turn around."

The Doctor rushed Emilie along into the TARDIS and once they were both inside, slammed the door shut, locking it. His breath finally ran low and he began to draw in heavily, smiling towards the girl in the red coat as they recovered, it had been quite the dash.
"We made it. Good work Emilie."
The Doctor was really just pleased that they had made it back without being zapped by the angels again. He hadn't enjoyed it the first time it had happened, the second had been no better.
He would ensure there would not be a third.

Breathing was good. It was important to remember to breathe. Even if there was a stitch in her side now, for the twelfth time in... oh, who was counting? There were more important things to worry about than a bit of discomfort.
For example, meeting up with the younger old Doctor and Sarah Jane.
"Right. Mind finding our magical coordinates, dear? I believe we have an appointment to keep."

There they were on a windswept plain of grasses that softly hissed and undulated around them. The air felt damp as though it were about to rain or perhaps there was ocean not so very far away. There was no second TARDIS however, and as she turned to the Doctor to ask, she was caught by the look in his eye. He wasn't looking at her, he was looking behind her, his face gone dead serious, his voice soft, breath warm in her hair.
"Sarah. Whatever you do, keep calm, and do not turn around."
Something was behind her. And if anyone besides the Doctor had said what he just said, she'd be doing the exact opposite.
She could not answer, but watched his eyes, watching to see if he would blink, and nodded her head in understanding. That was when, out of the corner of her eye, she saw perhaps a way out.
"Doctor, don't blink" She whispered huskily, though clearly he was not. Her life this moment, it seemed depended on his eye muscle control. "I think the building we're looking for is right behind you. Cant we out run it?"
Somewhere right behind her was an Angel. Her hand had dipped into her purse, instantly finding her camera and hating that she knows it would a terrible idea to take a picture of an Angel. Still her fingers itched to do it even as her heart pounded in her chest.

Don't blink. He wasn't blinking. The Doctor kept his eyes open as wide as he could, nearly all of his concentration on the Angel. Sarah had the rest of it. He had to keep her safe. And what was it his future self had said? Something about the eyes...not to look at them. That was it. Don't look in the Angel's eyes. Well thankfully, this one was currently covering them. Now he saw why they were called the Weeping Angels.
Then Sarah mentioned the building, and the Doctor nearly turned round to look before stopping himself. He wouldn't be able to see where he was going. So they'd have to take it slow. "Alright," he said reassuringly. A comforting hand held her arm. "We'll work together on this. I'll keep looking at the Angel. You direct me, tell me where to move. Can you do that?"
As he prepared to start backing up, the Doctor noticed his companion's hand slipping into her bag. What was she doing? His eyes flickered down to see. But that had been a mistake, and they snapped back up to where they were supposed to be looking. He had only looked down for the briefest moment, for the tiniest fraction of a second. And yet the Angel was much much closer. Its hands were lowered, one outstretched towards Sarah, and it was merely a few inches away. The face was a grotesque, feral expression. It had to be one of the worst the Time Lord had ever seen.
"Come on Sarah," the Doctor urged after taking a deep breath to steady his nerves. "Let's move. Quickly now." He started backing up.

How did he make her feel so good asking such simple things from her. Playground games. She gave him a vigorous nod and a bit of a smile from her own confidence.
Sarah Jane Smith was unaware of the terrible tableau behind her as she reached forward and caught one of his arms in both of her hands, stepping forward to do so as the Doctor began to boldly move back.
The grasses were smooth, but they grew in hillocks the Doctor might have been able to negotiate if he was face forward, but he wasn't.
"There's a- go right . . my right!!" She drove him in the right direction with her arm, then looked up at him sheepishly. "Sorry."
His eyes looked dry enough she wanted to rub her own, but did not. She aimed him the other direction around these last waves of grass clotted earth before they reached the more manicured grounds just ahead. They were managing to retreat at a fair brisk walk.
(I figured it couldn't hurt for 3rd and I to go back and fourth till we hit the building or one of you two others post . . ? Objections welcome.)

Smiling as Sarah corrected herself, the Doctor nodded as he continued following her directions. All the while he kept his eyes on the Angel. "Don't worry. We're alright." She continued telling him where to step. He could feel the clots and hillocks around his feet, poking about with them as he moved back. Just as they reached the end of the rougher ground, his foot got caught in the soil and he stumbled a little. Thankfully he didn't fall. "I'm alright," he assured his companion.
While he recovered and got on the smoother grass, his eyes still stayed on the Angel, not giving it the chance to move. But then...was it just him, or was there something else? Behind the Angel, sort of on the horizon. The Doctor peered at it...oh no. Apparently their nasty friend had reinforcements. Now he found himself moving back a little faster. He hoped his older self got here soon.

They picked up speed as they hit flat ground, Sarah Jane making the best speed she could, steering her nimble friend backward. She aimed his back directly at the far corner of the door to put it at his hand as he stopped, yanking back on his arm just in time to keep him from slamming into the door frame. Her own hand darted out to test the handle.
"Locked!" She said, unnecessarily. Then she is spinning to look behind them. She could contain herself no longer.
The sight of the Weeping Angel made her drag in a ragged breath. Though it was well behind them, frozen there by the Doctor's gaze, it was chilling none the less. So, this was what they were up against.
