At night time, Niagara Falls was lit up in spectacular colored lights. When he'd accidentally bounced off of New York City and nearly crashed upstate, he couldn't help but wander around while the TARDIS repaired herself.
He was alone again, not by tragedy or something as silly as that, The Doctor just somehow ended up on his own once again. So, sight seeing it was. He was sitting at the banks of the falls, just up a ways so he wouldn't get wet, a lovely place to sit and relax.
To just enjoy the quiet.
Well, until the time fluctuation, that was. The Doctor saw it cross the sky, like a purple aurora. However, there wasn't a need to panic, as it was gone just as soon as it had come.
More interesting to him was the extra large barrel he could see plummeting down the Falls, eventually floating to him. The Doctor examined it once it was close enough.

Bang! Bang! Bang!
With a strong enough push, The Doctor burst from within the barrel, the top flying back into the waters behind him. He laughed a bit, "Oho. That was different. Never done that-"
He was looking straight into the confused eyes of a face he recognized. He recognized it because it was once his face. The Doctor had trailed off, so he finished his sentence.
"But, but, that was incredibly dangerous. What would possess you to do that?"
"-before." He made a face, "Emilie, be a dear and climb up now. I think we have some explaining to do."

Times like this, Emilie was not sure if the Doctor was very brave or really just very foolish. They had been poking about a museum on the edge of the Canadian border when the Doctor had taken one look at a barrel and excitedly announced 'I bet we can make that'.
Then, with no explanation at all, he simply took off leaving a bewildered Emilie to try and catch up.
Needless to say, her protests had not stopped the Doctor from jumping inside. She'd had no choice but to follow suit. And then try not to swallow her tongue as they fell and fell. The Doctor laughing giddily the whole time, of course.
"Oho. That was different. Never done that-"
Emilie could not quite make out the other man's voice, but something must have caught the Doctor's attention, for his pleased triumph soon faded.
"-before." He made a face, "Emilie, be a dear and climb up now. I think we have some explaining to do."
"We?" she asked indignantly, scrambling to get out of the barrel nonetheless. "I think you mean you have some explaining to do, Doctor. "
Finally where she could see, Emilie gave an apologetic smile to the stranger.
"Sorry if we startled you. He literally does not always look before he leaps." She paused, expression crinkling in curiosity. "Hang on. I feel like I've seen you before. Are you famous for anything?"

The Doctor was a bit shocked about what was going on here. A man and a woman popping out of a barrel that had fallen down from such a great height. He supposed he'd done worse before, but even still.
Then, there was that look the man had given him. One of such familiarity, like, he knew him inside and out so completely. Could he be staring into his own future? No, that would be silly. Look at that hair, ridiculous.
"-before." He made a face, "Emilie, be a dear and climb up now. I think we have some explaining to do."
"We?" she asked indignantly, scrambling to get out of the barrel nonetheless. "I think you mean you have some explaining to do, Doctor. "
"Doctor?"
Oh. Apparently he was sporting that ridiculous hair. That was a shame.
"Sorry if we startled you. He literally does not always look before he leaps." She paused, expression crinkling in curiosity. "Hang on. I feel like I've seen you before. Are you famous for anything?"
The woman was pleasant enough, lovely even. At least he wouldn't be traveling with people odder than his future sense of fashion.
"Famous? I suppose."

"Doctor?"
"Yes, Emilie, this is-"
She'd already started talking to him, "Sorry if we startled you. He literally does not always look before he leaps." She paused, expression crinkling in curiosity.
"Well, how else is one supposed to-"
"Hang on. I feel like I've seen you before. Are you famous for anything?"
"Famous? I suppose."
The Doctor, the older one, cut in, "Emilie. This is my Eighth self. You know, if you aren't going to pay attention when I show you pictures, I think I'll save ourselves time and just show you another meteor shower instead."

He supposed he was famous? Wouldn't you know if you were?
Emilie. This is my Eighth self.
Ah, that explained it. So famous and infamous then.
You know, if you aren't going to pay attention when I show you pictures, I think I'll save ourselves time and just show you another meteor shower instead.
"That's hardly fair when the only time I saw an image of..." she flushed, feeling suddenly sorry for talking ABOUT Eight in front of him, "well, this you for a few seconds what... a year ago?"
Keeping track of time in any sort of linear fashion was rather tricky, so Emilie typically did not try. But if the Doctor could pretend less time had passed than it had, Emilie figured she could stretch it for a while.
"Besides, the last time you wanted to watch a meteor shower, I ended up getting married."
That accusation was fairly light actually, given her Doctor knew the entire story, but it still made her feel as if her point was sound, so Emilie went with it.
Clearing her throat, she turned back to Eight.
"But it is always lovely to meet you, Doctor. Emilie Gunnar, at your service, as ever."

"Just about," The Doctor started, "Oh, well, how about that. We've been together about a year now."
"Excuse me, together? I hardly think-"
"Oh, hush you," The Doctor shot back to his younger self, "It's not like that. Emilie's been traveling with me for a year now." That seemed to be enough for The Eighth Doctor.
"Besides, the last time you wanted to watch a meteor shower, I ended up getting married."
"Well," he started, "That's not, entirely my fault. Besides, we found out about quite a lovely spot for those in love. I thought it was a wonderful place. Well, except the never leaving part..."
Emilie was greeting his Eighth self now, and The Eleventh was looking around, wondering what had drawn them together this time. They were starting to run out of other Doctors to meet.

Well, that was good enough for him. He didn't want to think that there was something improper going on in the TARDIS. Well, not as long as it was another Doctor, and not him.
"But it is always lovely to meet you, Doctor. Emilie Gunnar, at your service, as ever."
The Eighth Doctor smiled back to her, "How delightfully polite. I like that. Nice to meet you as well Emilie. Now, as nice as it's been, seeing my future self, don't you think we ought to either figure out why it's happened or bring you back to your proper time? Would you care to perform contact?"

“I’ve been travelling with you for over a year,” she started to correct. She’d seen the image of Eight with Nine, after all, but she trailed off. There wasn’t any use arguing, and they had both moved on to other implications of ‘together’ anyway.
Emilie barely resisted pointing out the Doctor was the one she was ‘married’ to on Asteroid Libra.
Now, as nice as it's been, seeing my future self, don't you think we ought to either figure out why it's happened or bring you back to your proper time?
“I’m more curious as to why only half of you seem to remember our previous meetings, Doctor,” Emilie responded candidly.
Would you care to perform contact?"
She smiled in bemusement then. “I’m at your service, Doctor, but I’m not entirely certain that is within my capabilities.” Eyes sparkling, she added, “But I’m more than willing to try.”

“I’m more curious as to why only half of you seem to remember our previous meetings, Doctor,” Emilie responded candidly.
The Doctor shrugged before saying, "Or why I don't have memories of this encounter from his perspective. Yes, I've been pondering that for quite some time now. I haven't figured it out yet."
His younger self was looking confused. Of course he asked about the previous instances, and The Eleventh answered his question, "Well, it's odd. Yes, I'll show you a few of the instances. Afraid I can't show you all of them, one is after your time."
"Is that so, and how many times have I regenerated to be you?"
The Eleventh smiled a bit and said, "Not too many times, only three regenerations. Don't worry, based on the way you look right now, I can tell you've still got a long way to go."
Yes, this Doctor still hadn't entered the Time War yet. Poor, naive Doctor.

Of course the Doctor had to go and be serious and steal her fun, but Emilie didn't let that faze her.
"He doesn't think I can do it," she mock whispered. Still, she was rather glad that this Doctor was not going to see the happenings on Skaro.
Also on the plus side, the Doctor surely couldn't try and make them hop UP the falls in that barrel.
They just had no idea why two of the Doctor's timelines had intersected yet again. Which probably meant they should do some exploring soon.
Deciding to stretch her legs a bit why the Doctor thought-spoke to himself, Emilie made a polite excuse before walking a little further away from the water.
It was an absolutely lovely night. One she would hate to have ruined by violence or chaos but given the circumstance, Emilie supposed it was probably only a matter of time.

"He doesn't think I can do it," she mock whispered.
The younger Doctor snickered before offering a joking wink to Emilie, "I'm sure with the proper training, you'd be able to figure it out just fine." It would be very dangerous for Emilie to take a trip in The Doctor's mind, they'd only gotten over her thinking The Doctor was a title like the Dread Pirate Roberts, maybe four months back.
The Doctor shrugged before saying, "Or why I don't have memories of this encounter from his perspective. Yes, I've been pondering that for quite some time now. I haven't figured it out yet."
"Curiouser, and curiouser, wouldn't you say Doctor?"
"Well, it's odd. Yes, I'll show you a few of the instances. Afraid I can't show you all of them, one is after your time."
"Is that so, and how many times have I regenerated to be you?"
"Not too many times, only three regenerations. Don't worry, based on the way you look right now, I can tell you've still got a long way to go."
"Well, I'm glad to know I'll live such a long life in this body. Right then, let's try this." As Emilie started wandering off, he closed his eyes, "Contact."
"Contact."

"Any time you want to offer lessons, Doctor," she laughed a little in return.
She listened to the two speaking. It was rather amusing. Talking to a future or past self must be a dreadful headache, balancing all the necessary bits of time and such. Emilie was rather glad that had yet to happen to her. But the TARDIS did not seem interested in crossing her past too often, if at all, so Emilie reckoned she was safe on that count.
"Contact."
It was not the first time she had watched the Doctor do this, although the mechanics were still a mystery to her.
What was it the Doctor wanted to share? She wondered, but not so much that Emilie felt the need to ask.
No, she would wait a little while and watch the lights flickering off the water.

The two were tied up for less than a minute, The Eleventh giving the Eighth information about where they'd met in incarnations prior to The Eighth. The Doctor made sure to block off the encounter with Nine or anything about the Time War.
"Well, there we are, all caught up."
"Goodness me." He turned to Emilie and smiled, "You are absolutely brilliant, Emilie Gunnar. I am thoroughly impressed with my future ability to pick companions." Smiling to the pair, he said, "So then. The real question is, what drew us together? Do you think it might be the TARDIS?"
The Doctor shook his head, "No, I made sure to sweep for angry Greek Gods this time. She's so clean, you could eat off her floors."
The Eighth scratched his chin, "Perhaps it was that time distortion that flew over the falls."
The Eleventh nodded in agreement, "More likely of the situation."

He turned to Emilie and smiled, "You are absolutely brilliant, Emilie Gunnar. I am thoroughly impressed with my future ability to pick companions."
The night hid the faint blush at the Eight Doctor's words, but Emilie still seized on his next train of thought as an immediate welcome distraction. Because he was right, after all, it wasn't every day you just fell out of your own time. And this had not even been as jolting as the Angels!
Well, maybe it had, but being in a barrel had either mediated the effects (and if so, that was some barrel) or simply distracted her senses with its own jolting.
The Doctor shook his head, "No, I made sure to sweep for angry Greek Gods this time. She's so clean, you could eat off her floors."
"And she's happier," Emilie agreed. "No one likes being covered in dirt, you know."
Twitching suddenly, Emilie moved back towards the barrel they had travelled here in. To her mind, the only new variables introduced between their visit and arrival in this time zone were the barrel and the falls.
"Sonic, please, Doctor?"
She held out one hand upturned, not even bothering to distinguish between the two. She'd always known they were the same, it seemed. Her Doctor and the others needed different things, had different outlooks, and vastly different tastes, but they were all the Doctor.
And aside from the Valeyard, she had never had cause to truly fear while with any version or aspect of him.
Even if they didn't find anything, Emilie thought it was worth checking.
