"Allons-y!" Emilie chirped, dashing headlong, figuratively speaking at least.
"Oh!" The Doctor made a sound of approval, "Are you French Emilie? I've always liked France. Particularly during the revolution, but that's a whole different can of worms." The possibility of a French companion was rather exciting to The Doctor.
He didn't retrieve his hand either, Emilie was quite light on her feet, so hanging onto her was helping him keep up with her.
Oh my, a companion that was faster than him. Perhaps he was getting old after all.

Are you French, Emilie?
"That's what it says on my birth certificate!" Emilie had called back gaily.
That happiness had diminished now, because the growling sound had gotten louder.
"Doctor," she said more quietly, facing the younger version of her best friend. "Do you hear that?"
Whatever it was, the sound was giving her the shivers. It felt wrong. If 'sounds' could feel like anything.

"That's what it says on my birth certificate!"
"Fantastic!" The Eighth announced his appreciation for her nationality. Though, it seemed they were already up to it in something else's business. Growling, how fun.
"Doctor," she said more quietly, facing the younger version of her best friend. "Do you hear that?"
"I do," The younger Doctor answered, "We're being followed." He sighed, "If I had a nickle for every time that happened." Looking about, The Doctor decided, "We're not going to find out who they are until they want us to know." He blinked, "Where has my older self gotten off to?"
No Doctor up ahead anymore.

As worried as she had been about the peculiar sounds, the sudden vanishing of her Doctor was another matter entirely.
No, no, no, no, no!
Swallowing hard, Emilie forced herself not to panic. Where was the good in that? Worse, the growling had been added to by raised voices to their right.
"Well, we found trouble. Let's go poke a stick in it."

The disappearance of his older self was not a welcomed event. The Doctor looked to Emilie, he could feel the tenseness in her hand, she was trying to hold back from entering a panic now. Time to step up Doctor.
"Well, we found trouble. Let's go poke a stick in it."
He squeezed her hand and said, "Alright then. Emilie, stick beside me and do exactly as I say." The growling was growing, The Doctor couldn't recognize the sound of the growl either. Wonderful, he loved to meet new and interesting creatures that apparently stole his older self.
And they were getting louder! It gets better. It took The Doctor less than a moment to pick their next move, "Run Emilie! Run!" He pulled her along, heading for the building nearest to them on their right.

It was somewhat peculiar, having the Doctor be so protective of her again. Not that Emilie was really complaining, you understand. He was being rather sweet, and with her Doctor gone, Emilie was not in top form anyway.
Still, she couldn't let the Doctor down. Either of him. So when he said run?
Emilie didn't hesitate a moment.
"You realize we're running towards the sound, right?"
Just checking....
She could just make out one of the figures now. Humanoid in shape, which rather made it all the more terrifying. How did a human throat make that sound?

"You realize we're running towards the sound, right?"
The Doctor shot Emilie a smile, "How else will we find out what's looking at us unless we chase it down Emilie?" He almost laughed about it.
And off they went again, headed toward the sound, where, hopefully his older self had been dragged off to. He'd feel so bad if something had happened to him and left Emilie behind.
Though, that would mean she would have to come with him.
No. That's so rude to think of yourself that way, an interesting young lady such as Emilie or not.

"How else will we find out what's looking at us unless we chase it down Emilie?"
"Fair enough," Emilie laughed at that. It was just so stereotypical Doctor.
Just another reminder that no matter what his face, the Doctor was the Doctor. And Emilie would follow the Doctor anywhere. Even into the mouth of Hell, should it come to that.
She also would not let any version of him come to harm. So when the humanoid shape came closer, Emilie grabbed his wrist and pulled him still against the nearest building.
"Shh, shh. Let's see."
When the creature walked by, it looked human. Stoned and devoid of any obvious intelligence, but human nonetheless.
A car drove by, the light illuminating the man's skin, and Emilie had to cut off her own gasp. His arms were covered in a carpet of pinpricks. A druggist's nightmare, but a user's too. Who would willingly inject themselves that many times? Normally it was kept hidden, people did not take kindly to users after all. But this man had a definite patch of needle marks.
The car passed and left Emilie wondering if she had only imagined it.

The Eleventh had disappeared. He was actually in the grasp of these creatures, tied up and upside down. Completely knocked out and unaware of his surroundings. --------------
Meanwhile, The Eighth had seen exactly what Emilie had. How curious, "Our company seems to be human, with a dash of something extra, doesn't it?" He was making an educated guess of course, but it seemed like this was the case. Regardless, they now had just enough information to make a plan.
Looking to Emilie while they remained in cover, The Doctor mused on what they ought to do, "Now, if I know myself, and believe me, I do, I'm probably stuck in the thick of whatever our friends are up to. So, we'll have to find out where they, or if it's just the one, he, is going. Well, that's the first option at least."
He didn't wait for her to ask about the other, "The second, is that one of us surrenders and sees what happens. Should we flip a coin?"

Emilie had listened intently to the Doctor’s two possible plans. Logical, of course, but highly impractical.
“If you think for one moment I’m allowing us to get separated and thus leave both of you on your own, you are completely mental, and not in your usual brilliant way.”
Tugging on his hand, Emilie opted for the first plan. Follow and see what they could see.

Emilie's loyalty to him was quite endearing, The Eighth decided. He smiled and wrapped his hand around her's tightly, "Very well, Plan A it is."
He chuckled just a bit, "Though, you do know that the percentage of times my Plan A's turn into Plan E or Plan F is somewhere around 90, right?"
The Doctor might as well warn her beforehand.

Emilie's smile grew brighter then, exhilirated with this Doctor's agreement and the adrenaline of the moment.
"Luckily I have something better than a plan," she announced, just as grandly as her Doctor loved to do.
"Now shhh."
She tapped his lips briefly with one hand to fully illustrate her request, then pulled him after the strange creature again as they moved further into the city.
Further into a world of noise, even at this time of the night.
"It's not natural, is what it is!"

As The Eighth and Emilie conspired, The Eleventh was regaining a sense of consciousness, however, his vision was all out of focus. Everything appeared to be upside down!
Oh.
Well, that was because he was upside down. Well, this was uncomfortable for certain.
"Helloooo," The Doctor called out in sing-song, "Is there anyone out there who would like to explain to me why I had to be upside down?"

"Sorry, what isn't natural?" Emilie asked as politely as she could.
A mission which was, admittedly, hindered by the fact she was peering into the dark. Streets were not quite so well lit back in the day, and the world not so full of light pollution.
Them zombies, the first voice grunted.
One of his companions chortled at that. I don't reckon that there is any such thing as zombies, lad. But I will grant you there's something worse than opium on the market these days.
The strangers eventually resolved into two men. They were both fairly bundled but if Emilie were to guess by their faces, one was pipe cleaner thin with a sickly air about him whereas the other was closer to proper proportions.
Emilie glanced back to the Doctor, wondering quietly if she was destined to repeat the same monsters just as the Doctor appeared cursed with meeting himself so many times.
Zombies, dinosaurs, and Daleks, oh my!
-------------------------------------------------
"Helloooo," The Doctor called out in sing-song, "Is there anyone out there who would like to explain to me why I had to be upside down?"
"All the better to carry you, my dear!" laughed an almost feminine voice, but when the speaker shifted its shadow revealed far more than the average human kidnapper.
No, this was far more like 'the Iron Giant' in size. Perhaps not quite tall enough to accidentally run into powerlines, but as there were none in the area, the metaphor holds well enough.

They'd spotted two men. That was interesting, because The Doctor hadn't heard, seen or felt their presence until just now. Curiouser and curiouser was becoming one of his favorite sayings.
He looked to Emilie and put a finger to his lips, asking for complete silence while they listened in on them. They were talking of Zombies. Zombies? Really? That seemed like a silly discussion. Reanimation of he dead was far more complex and deserved a far more interesting name than zombie.
Until they started to eat brains, then zombie was an alright name to go by. Regardless, he was now transfixed on the conversation. -----------------------------
The Eleventh was dealing with a far more curious encounter.
A giant, per say, of the shadowy nature. At least she had a nice voice. The Doctor narrowed his eyes to try and get a look at his captor.
"While that may be true, a great deal of my blood is running into my head, and while my blood may run a bit slower than a human being's, it appears that I've been here long enough to feel the rush."
