"Well, there we are, all caught up."
The Doctor had learned off all their previous encounters. It appeared to him that Emilie Gunnar had been through an awful lot of grief since starting to travel with his older self, but she also seemed to have become quite addicted to the traveling lifestyle.
That, and she was quite the incredible companion to boot.
"Goodness me." He turned to Emilie and smiled, "You are absolutely brilliant, Emilie Gunnar. I am thoroughly impressed with my future ability to pick companions." Smiling to the pair, he said, "So then. The real question is, what drew us together? Do you think it might be the TARDIS?"
"No, I made sure to sweep for angry Greek Gods this time. She's so clean, you could eat off her floors."
"And she's happier," Emilie agreed. "No one likes being covered in dirt, you know."
The Eighth continued to ponder aloud, "Well, how about that. Hm." As he stood by, Emilie had jumped into action without needing a prompt. She asked for a Sonic. Confused, the younger Time Lord reached into his top pocket.
"Oh, right. I don't carry a screwdriver. Sorry-" He looked up and saw his future self handing her a rather large device, probably the biggest Sonic Screwdriver he'd seen yet, "Good to know I'll be better prepared in the future."

"Oh, right. I don't carry a screwdriver. Sorry-"
Emilie did blink a little at that. She thought the celery Doctor was the only one who went around saving the world with a kettle and some string.
Still, this Doctor didn't wear a decorative vegetable. He actually looked quite nice. And apparently lived quite a long time.
"Admirable, I suppose," she murmured before smiling brilliantly to her Doctor as he handed her his sonic. "Thank you, dear."
"Good to know I'll be better prepared in the future."
Chuckling at that, Emilie reassured him, "Don't worry. We'll look after you."
At least this time. Emilie had meant what she told Eleven. He was her Doctor, and she wanted to stay with him. As lovely as the Eighth Doctor seemed, she wasn't likely to run into him often intentionally. Which was a shame, but there it was.
She scanned the barrel and what remained of its insides (which was mostly just dirt it looked like). She didn't really understand the sonic nearly as well as she did the TARDIS, but Emilie had learned that all she needed to do was point. The Doctor would understand its readings.

"Admirable, I suppose," she murmured before smiling brilliantly to her Doctor as he handed her his sonic. "Thank you, dear."
"Of course," he let her go off to the barrel while he and his former self both were thinking about it all, the meetings, the way they've been running into each other. Everything.
"Do you suppose there's meaning to it?"
"Once or twice, it might've been a coincidence. By the third time, I realized, something is drawing us together. I don't know what it is, or why, but once we do, I'm, concerned about what will be there as well." He looked back to Emilie, then to himself, or his younger self rather.
"Right then, we should take a walk then, don't you think? Seems we'll have no answers here if we just stand around. More of you just avoiding spoilers."

Well, the sonic had chirruped a little, but aside from that it hadn't revealed anything of worth to her. Not Emilie could understand anyway.
"I think the sonic just said that there was time distortion, nothing of the helpful variety."
She tucked the sonic back into her Doctor's hand with a smile and a, "Thanks, love."
"Right then, we should take a walk then, don't you think? Seems we'll have no answers here if we just stand around. More of you just avoiding spoilers."
"Ooh, exploration time." She bounced on the balls of her feet in undisguised excitement. "Oh, oh, before I forget. Can I meet your TARDIS before we have to leave?"
She had begun to make it a point to meet every version of her she could. Emilie considered it rude to be interested by different incarnations of the Doctor but NOT his ship. Especially when the TARDIS was so amazingly wonderful.
"Oh please, Doctor? Say yes?"
She was giving the Eighth Doctor puppy dog eyes now, just in case he thought it was a bad idea and needed convincing to the contrary.

The younger Time Lord didn't have an answer, but he was sure that if he continued along meeting his old selves, there would be something, big, at the end of the line. "The TARDIS? Well, she's always the same TARDIS. She exists across all time." He looked at Emilie with a smile, "Besides, surely you've seen my console room if it's been changed? They're all in the archives."
"Oh please, Doctor? Say yes?"
He chuckled, "Oh, alright. Any objections Doctor?"
"Course not, let's get cracking Doctor."

"Oh, that's like saying you two are the exact same! And sure, you're the same person, but the sum of your memories is different."
She flittered her hand as if to add 'and other things' without having to come up with justificaton.
Oh please, Doctor? Say yes?"
He chuckled, "Oh, alright. Any objections Doctor?"
"Course not, let's get cracking Doctor."
Their agreement elicited a jump on her part, with Emilie now beaming from ear to ear.
"Fantastic. Let's go find some locals, shall we? We always find someone clever there."
Of course, sometimes the clever one was the person they least wanted to see, but all the same.

The Eleventh smiled while the Eighth finally caved in and gave Emilie what she wanted. It was incredibly difficult for any of the Doctors to really say no to Emilie, whether her request was big or small, they all seemed to enjoy giving in to whatever she wanted.

The Doctor looked from one side to the other, "But, which locals? Local Americans? Or local Canadians?" He didn't know which side would be the better choice. The Eighth Doctor pointed back towards the small woodland behind them.
"I'm actually settled right here in the middle. We could visit my TARDIS first. Perhaps give you a scan?"

Ah, that was a good question. Emilie didn’t really know enough about Americans or Canadians to make any sort of informed choice on that.
“The side that does not involve us jumping in a barrel again?” she tried.
Fortunately, the younger Doctor had a smarter suggestion. And one that had her twirling in her happiness, Emilie immediately hugged the Eighth Doctor at his offer.
“Let’s!”
She could meet the TARDIS, and then maybe the TARDIS would have a better idea of what to scan for. Or they could always choose by heads or tails. That worked sometimes.
“What year is it now anyway, Doctor?”
She’d seen her Doctor name the time and place by the taste of the air alone, but Emilie possessed no such skill.

The Eleventh Doctor looked around, thinking about where exactly they should be going, obviously he hadn't thought that part through yet, "But, which locals? Local Americans? Or local Canadians?" He didn't know which side would be the better choice.
The Eighth Doctor pointed back towards the small woodland behind them, "I'm actually settled right here in the middle. We could visit my TARDIS first. Perhaps give you a scan?"
Suddenly, Emilie was hugging him, announcing he approval of the idea that he'd offered to the pair of fellow travelers, “Let’s!”
The younger Doctor grinned and nodded his head, "Very well. We'll figure out where to begin our investigation after we start at the logical jumping point. We can scan the two of you and figure out how you fell through time here."
The Eleventh was in agreement, "Very good. Let's be on our way. I imagine we can begin with looking at out Arton energy."

Well, scanning the barrel hadn’t helped her any. But she didn’t know what she was doing, in all honesty, and the TARDIS did, so Emilie heartily approved of this plan.
Falling back to her Doctor’s side, Emilie slid her hand into his before smiling to the Eighth once more.
“Lead on, good sir.”

“What year is it now anyway, Doctor?”
"It's 2004, where had you been when you fell here?"
The Eleventh cut in and said, "We'd been in 2025. It appears that we took quite a tumble through time." He chuckled as they neared the Eighth Doctor's TARDIS. The older Time Lord looked rather excited.
"Oh, I loved the TARDIS interior when I was you. One of her best dresses."

Her Doctor’s excitement as they neared the TARDIS helped Emilie feel vindicated if nothing else. She squeezed his hand lightly, sharing a brief bright smile before looking ahead to the younger Doctor as he led them in.
And the TARDIS was absolutely gorgeous. Emilie felt as if she had walked into a fairy tale. Everything was so ornate and lovely and so different to what she was accustomed to seeing! Her hand slipped out of the Doctor’s hold of its own accord as the girl wandered slowly towards the console.
“You lovely, clever girl,” she murmured, horribly distracted from their plan for several moments.
Shaking herself, Emilie looked back to the Doctors.
“Sorry, we were going to run a scan?”

After unlocking the TARDIS and stepping inside, he held the doors open for them both. His older self looked quite pleased, like he was meeting an old friend. In a way, he was, The Doctor supposed.
“You lovely, clever girl.”
The Eighth beamed, "You really do love her, don't you Emilie?" It warmed his hearts, really it did. Most of his companions just figured the TARDIS was a machine, but she was so much more than that. She was actually, properly alive, and The Doctor loved her too.
“Sorry, we were going to run a scan?”
He nodded, "Ah yes. A scan for fluctuations in Arton energy. Obviously, as Time Travelers, you'll have residual energy." The Eleventh cut in, "But since we seem to have traveled an alternate path than via TARDIS, we might have picked up some clues as to how. Very good Doctor, we can use the shortcut through the library to get to the secondary med lab."
The Eighth agreed with his older self, "Have you finished the swimming pool in your library? Mine is nearly ready, I keep getting so distracted though. Feels like I've been working on it for two hundred years now."
"More like three."

"You really do love her, don't you Emilie?"
"She's amazing," Emilie chirped. "Always feels like home."
Have you finished the swimming pool in your library? Mine is nearly ready, I keep getting so distracted though. Feels like I've been working on it for two hundred years now.
Emilie looked between the Doctors.
"You mean that was intentional?" she asked curiously. "I'd always assumed it had just fallen in there...."
Ah, med lab. Med lab. Where would the TARDIS keep the med lab in here? Or, perhaps the better question was, where did she keep the library?

"She's amazing," Emilie chirped. "Always feels like home."
While his younger self was continuing to be impressed by Emilie, The Eleventh just seemed to be so pleased with how she was around his younger selves. It was odd, but their meetings had long since become common place. She knew deep down to treat all of them exactly the same.
The conversation turned to the pool and the library.
"Have you finished the swimming pool in your library? Mine is nearly ready, I keep getting so distracted though. Feels like I've been working on it for two hundred years now."
"More like three."
"Oh? That long, huh?"
As they began to head for the halls that would lead to the library, The Eleventh nodded, "Give or take."
"You mean that was intentional?" she asked curiously. "I'd always assumed it had just fallen in there...."
"Oh, it did," The Doctor answered Emilie, "But when we saw it that way, the idea just stuck. As long as the books don't fall into the pool, it's a lovely place." He did recall a time where many of his books had fallen in, "Went through a hundred and seven hairdryers once."
